I went to hospital to see my consultant and got told that after 17 Years I can finally come off my immunosuppressant I take for my Crohn’s Disease. Its weird already not taking them along side the others. Every day of my adult life I’ve taken them. Spent just as long taking them as I lived before i was diagnosed. So FUCK YEAH! May my health continue to improve.
I got taken to Claridge’s for Lunch Yesterday. I’d never been. They gave me a cake.
Today was supposed to house party day. But the rain and eves crushing sickness has put paid to that. Curry house table for 10 and then pub it is.
What Would Your Teenaged Self Think Of You?
Post Birthday 2019.
Stopping my autoimmune medication for Crohn’s disease after 17 years.
Had a few meetings with mentors and friends this week too. I think I’ll know the shape of my life soon enough.
I’m on to the Buried Dagger. Book 54 and the LAST book in the series. It might also be one of my fav’s. It humanises one of the main character’s in the series The Primarch of the Death Guard Legion Mortarion. He even cracks a few jokes.
I’ve basically been listening to CALIGULA by LINGUA IGNOTA big thanks to Warren for pointing out that it had come out. It’s a triumph! Incredible album.
Wow, What a week. Still decompressing from the trip. Writing this post has helped me process it quite a bit.
I attended Sonar+D Last week to take part in a panel on ‘Tales of the Next Internet‘. I spoke alongside cybersecurity journalist Marta Peirano, researcher and activist Xenia Ermoshina, with the panel moderated by Ash Sarkar.
The panel went really well, and the topics covered were diverse but also coherent. I spoke on Long term thinking, and questioned wether we can even call the internet infrastructure (who ever heard of 100 year website or 1000 year internet), How software should make us feel, and finally on the upcoming proliferation of sensing devices and the urgency of climate change action. I finished my talk by reading “All Watched Over by Machines of Loving Grace” which might give you some idea by how off piste my talk was by the end.
Sonar+D is an amazing festival, bridging the delicate line between corporate sponsored event by leaving space open for more radical voices. I saw some amazing talks.
I saw Honor interview Noriko Taniguchi of team lab
Plus saw a bunch of fantastic art and other talks on building virtual worlds etc.
It was fun being a participant, being able to walk stright out of Sonar+D into the festival. I got to see a bunch of cool artists I Embedded a tumblr photo post below
I also drank a lot of absinthe and ate a lot of fantastic food. I also got to see and hang out with a bunch of other acquaintances and friends at the event. I was grateful for their company. Speaking to people you know when your social battery is low is so nice.
A real highlight was staying with my good friendHuw Lemmeyonce my sonar hospitality ran out. On Saturday we hiked up Montserrat to Sant Jeroni peak. The view was incredible. And such a fun day, with lots of deep conversation and laughs here we are at the top.
As time passes I am becoming more and more aware every time I interact with social media that I am complicit.
Permanently moved is a personal podcast 301 seconds in length, written and recorded in one hour by @thejaymo
A lot of folks I saw at sonar seem to be listening and gave me a lot inspiration and encouragement. It was also nice to see so many people give Huw’s Bad Gays podcast amazing feedback in real time and see how he reacted.
Dipping the Stacks
Honestly i spent no time on the internet but this is amazing
It is so inspiring being around friends and other amazing people who ‘execute’. A few conversations about imposter syndrome came about but friends re-assured me that i was there because I am executing too.. Which made me feel nice (but that my have been the beer). I have a lot of things on the go which I hope to get out into the world soon.
“perfect is the enemy of good enough” is a thing I think musicians and creatives with background in classical training always fight. It was really nice to hear that I’m not the only person fighting this every single day.
I also had some great conversations at sonar. Some of which included the notion of doing some future work.
I finished listening to Slaves of Darkenss which means I’m 2 books away from finishing the 54 book series. and i thought DUNE was a long slog during my Asia trip! Then i roll straight in to book 1 of 6 book ‘Solar War’ series. It takes 54 books to cover 9 years of plot. And 6 books to cover a battle that lasts 85 days. (the first and last war for mankind – it never ends – Warhammer 40k is set 10k years later and the Galaxey is still aflame )
It’s been amazing tho. Absolutely everything my 10 year old self wanted back in 1994 when I first discovered Warhammer.
Annie is a member of Hollys ensamble, we had breakfast one morning at the hotel. I listened to her EP that day and it’s Fantastic.
This is a personal meme joke with regard to this guy.
Im sick. Sorry this whole weekly blog things is become lame and predictable with very little content. My life is going to get super crazy later this year, so stick around
I had to go to bed at lunchtime yesterday and didn’t get up again until this morning. I feel a bit better today but still groggy and under the weather. At least I’m not having hot/cold shivers any more.
Eve and I went for dinner earlier in the week and we had a really nice time. the sun was gorgeous and it was still light and about 20 degrees when we walked back along the thames about 9pm. Wonderful.
In my fevered state yesterday i had a good chat with Mat Dryhurst on twitter. Click though to see it.
No Podcast this week due to being ill. I might try and do one early next week to bridge the gap as i’ll be in the Netherlands at bordersessions next Friday. It makes me feel tired already thinking about it.
I wanted to have my talk for bordersessions done already. Im plugging away at it today but because i still feel under the weather I literally manage to review or make one slide then i have to walk round the flat for a bit and force myself to get back to it.
This is the first time i’ve left something so last min. usually my talks are done the week before. Hopefully i’ll finish it because it will be majorly embarrassing if i didn’t. A disappointment to myself and all the people that paid money to see me. Im sure i’ll get it done tho.
MOAR WARHAMMER 40k. its absolutely fantastic. I’m going to recommend the series to anyone that askes about scifi series. There’s like 50 books and its like watching the mythology of your childhood unfold in front of your eyes.
OMG Diplo Charlie XCX and Herve Pagez have a spice girls mashup single out. It’s wild. The mining of the past to create present popular culture continues apace.
The main thing i’d like to point your attention towards this week is the new track from Poppy and Fever 333. Watch the whole video and listen to the whole track. Instead of mining the past like the Diplo track above. The insane fusion of genres this track goes with should be the template for the future. Or listen to the intro, the first 20 secs or so and then skip forward to 2.44. The final riff drives, like wading though thick mud.
I was away back in Jan when the track Voicemail came out. Its a fucking cracker. The distorted kick drum sound is perfect. *chefs kiss* This track is like the inside of my brain at a blockchain conference.
I only posted a blog 5 days ago due to the illness last week, but here I am posting again today. Still got a lingering dry cough which is annoying AF.
It’s the bank holiday weekend here in the UK and I can’t drink or eat any nice food as I have a small operation on Tuesday to check on my Crohn’s so I can only eat boring food and have to drink plenty of water. It’s a bit annoying but I decided that I’d rather have it done sooner rather than later. Once i get the results I’ll find out if I can come off some of the medication I’ve been taking every day of my life since I was 17 which will be a big change. Mentally rather than anything else.
A brief discussion of the ol’ venerable Bedey and I talk at length about one of the best bands ever: Mineral.
Hopefully getting involved in a cool solarpunk audioproject. more soon.
I’ve gone back to reading more warhammer horus heresy books. there’s 50 in the series so far and i thinki’ve read about 15 of them – all this year. I’ve decided that i’m not going to read them all but pick and choose a few more before I start reading ‘the seige of terra’ which is the 6 books finale. The first one solar war was published this week. I think i have about 5 more books i want to read before i start that series.
As I said in my podcast this week – I went to see Mineral on Thursday. Whilst i was at the gig I saw about 15 people i knew! All 00’s emo kids. I could probably post about 10 bands that they have all been in over the years. But instead i’m just going to post my two favourite Mineral songs
Nothing to add this week personally tbh. It is extremely galling to me that you spend your entire life trying to arrange it in such a way as to avoid doing things that you don’t want to do, and yet you still have to do them anyway.
That aside we are off to Dorset for a few days from tomorrow for a friends wedding. AirBNB in the middle of nowhere about 15mins drive from the venue kinda deal. Should be good!
S02E04 The life and times of the Priest Mermaid: Robert Stephen Hawker
It is an absolutely fantastic book. A real eye opener. I never thought anyone could write this way tbh. He went to the Holy Mountain at a very young age, and it seems he never lost that child like wonder at the world. I’m very much looking forward to reading more.
I’ve also burned thought the first two books in Games Workshop’s Horus Heresy Series this week. Only like 52 more books to go to catch up. After reading *all* of dune earlier this year I thought I might as well start/try and do something new.
New BlackPink single is litaf. The video has 128 MILLION views in 4 days! The size and scope of K-pop as an all conquering media force continues apace.
