075 :: Blam Blam

V. Enjoyable week.

Caught up with Mr Vickers on Tuesday. We ate pancakes at the relatively new Where the pancakes are in London Bridge round the corner from borough market.

Forest Berries

Hung out with Alex Fradera and his partner Kat (meeting for the first time) in Soho and then went to Clapham High Street to the launch of Huw Lemmey’s newest book RED TORY: My Corbyn Chemsex Hell

Continuing on from his first book Chubz: The Demonization of my Working Arse the book continues true to Huw’s form – outrageously pornographic political satire.

The book launch was at the oscar wilde temple. Totally wild time tbh.

Cutie Huw

Lastly I went clay pigeon shooting. I had a nice time and happy with how well I did.

Sunn O))) Life Metal came out. Just been blasting that in my headphones. I’d like to go for dusk evening walks with the album this week and get inside it. ØØ Void is still my favourite Sunn O))) work. But very few things are going to the the same influence on you as an adult as the first EP you pre-ordered when you were 15. But Monoliths & Dimensions also needs a mention

074 :: Lord of the Rings is better than Game Of Thrones

I’m currently writing this on Easter Sunday. Back on the chalk spending time with my family. My brother moved to Taiwan whilst i was traveling. It is i must admit a little strange not having him around.

The rents are currently packing to go away to morocco and they are giving me a lift back up to town. Which is nice.

The weather has be glorious. Not quite as warm as London but down here we get the added bonus of the sea, the horizon and the coast. the beach has been absolutely packed each day we’ve walked along the clifftop.

We also visited the family graves cleared them and said hello to the fam. A Lovely day.

After the disaster of last week. This episode redeems itself. I spoke with Mike Rugnetta on twitter for some advice and got some cool tips on improving the audio quality easily and I put them into action. Really quite happy with how this episode sounds.

The content of the episode has annoyed a bunch of people which was kind of the point. That said tho i think my argument about Tolkien installing mythic archetypes in to our collective unconscious is a novel reading of LOTR to be sure. And if I say so myself… A good one.

If you listen to it LMK what you think, or share it around.

Note: I’ve run out of space in my soundcloud to post any more episodes, so from now on I’m just gonna be posting the direct libsyn link *shrug*.

Got a couple more rejections on trying to sell my first story co-written with Andrew Dana Hudson. But a story about a drug dealing queer solarpunk getting in to imperial entanglements with a Fash snapchat demagogue seems to be a hard sell… We’ll keep trying. The version of the story we have now is way better than we first wrote it. Im really happy with it. We’ll just have to keep trying.

Im thinking about submitting a talk to the London Science Fiction Research Community’s conference on crypto and solarpunk. But need a good angle. *puts on thinking hat*

Reading

I’m still reading Wounded By Love before bedtime. And I’m about 1/3 of the way though Wilding by Isabella Tree. I reckon i’ll break the back of it on easter Monday.

Music

Most of my train ride home on Thursday was spent listening to Aretha Franklin’s Young Gifted and Black album. Rock steady is such a tune

My old housemate and very good friend and collaborator Andrew Brown recentlymade me aware of Adult’s album holy pinto. It is extremely 2019 UK emo band of the best time. I’ve loving it.

073 :: blah blah blah one take wonder.

Last week was super busy, not with work but personal stuff. We drove down to Dorset to attend a wedding and stay in an airbnb. Our little fiat 500 was packed to the gunnels: 3 suits, 1 dress, backpacks, food, booze, and 4 fully grown adults. It was quite a drive on the way down but we made it in on piece.

Deep Country

It was a lovely wedding and the miserable rain and wind from the day before cleared and they were blessed with glorious sunshine. It was the first wedding that our friendship group have attended with all the kids. there were a lot of em running around. It was cool.

On the way home we stopped off in the New Forest and saw the ponies

It’s funny. I massively fucked up this episode. I spoke way to fast. Ironically enough at the wedding I had a long conversation with a friend who works In local radio in Bristol about how i need to improve my ‘tracking’. Becuse the whole conceit is to write and record and edit in one hour i really don’t get that may takes (three at most for a sentence really) so i need to imporve my natural sounding speech when recording, I’m hoping this will come, as it will make and future forays in podcasting easier an more professional – blah blah blah one take wonder.

072 :: Do it anyway

Nothing to add this week personally tbh. It is extremely galling to me that you spend your entire life trying to arrange it in such a way as to avoid doing things that you don’t want to do, and yet you still have to do them anyway.

That aside we are off to Dorset for a few days from tomorrow for a friends wedding. AirBNB in the middle of nowhere about 15mins drive from the venue kinda deal. Should be good!

I’m currently reading Wounded by Love: The Life and Wisdom of Saint Porphyrios

071 :: Garbage

I really hate the new WordPress Gutenberg layout. I still can’t for the life of me understand why they changed the input. It is no where near as intuitive as medium or ghosts interface.

The tweaks they made to make it more like a blank sheet have improved it somewhat but have you actually tried moving one of the ‘blocks’ it creates if something ends up in the wrong place? Garbage.

It has added a cognitive workload that has to be surmounted before i can be bothered to post a new blog post.

Last week was shit – thanks for asking
